What is the difference between sedimentation and centrifugation?

Sedimentation is a process where molecules or particles sediment downward due to gravitational force. Larger and denser particles sediment faster. Centrifugation facilitates sedimentation with centrifugal force, separating the particles into solid pellet (precipitate) and liquid solvent (supernatant). Dec 2, 2016
