2015 Road Construction Updates Falls Road Project – The new asphalt road surface was installed last week. Pavement markings were installed on July 27 and the contractor has begun final shouldering of the road. Final landscaping and replacing the signs and mailboxes will be completed by the end of the week. The Village is anticipating that the road will be opened on Friday, July 31, two weeks ahead of the schedule. The final lift of asphalt (including the rumble strip be. tween the eastbound drive lane and the multipurpose path) will be installed in 2016 to allow for any pavement settling due to the utility trench work. 16th Avenue Project – The sanitary sewer has been replaced, the new water main has been installed, and all concrete has been poured in. The road is graded and will be ready for asphalt on July 30 or 31. Manhole lids and valve boxes will be brought to the final grade on July 29. On July 30 or 31, the road will be paved and then opened for traffic. This project was completed in just over one month time period. Pine Ridge Subdivision Project (Bobolink Avenue from Falls Road to south end) – This project was star, ted on April 27 and all utility work, curb and gutter, and storm water management have been completed. The developer’s contractor has placed the first layer of asphalt and the final lift is scheduled for September of this year. Sidewalk will be installed next in front of the City of Cedarburg lots.

Road Construction Update Falls Road Construction – Contractors are finishing up on the topsoil work and the ditches, restoring land that has been disturbed on the project, and final grading for the road. Paving is scheduled for Thursday, July 23. If the weather holds out, all paving for the project could be completed by Saturday July 25. Pavement markings will be done the week of July 27 and final restoration will continue until completed. The road will remain closed until . the restoration and pavement markings have been completed, which should be the first week of August. The project is currently one week ahead of the schedule. 16th Avenue Construction – The sanitary sewer main has been replaced and the new water main has been installed. All laterals should be completed on July 21 and the old water main will be abandoned. Contractor will be completing their work on Wednesday, July 22. The concrete crew will arrive on Thursday or Friday this week to replace the curb, gutter, and sidewalk. Payne and Dolan will be milling off the remaining road on Monday July 27 with grading crew following. The asphalt should be completed next week if there is no rain. This section of road is closed to all traffic at this time. Grafton takes advantage of favorable interest rates to issue new debt and refinance existing debt Last week, the Village issued $13.1 million in municipal bonds of which $11.9 million was to refinance existing debt. Due to lower interest rates, the Village will save over $1 million in interest cost over the next 12 years. In addition, the successful bond bidders, Baird and Piper Jaffray offered a premium and a discount for an additional bond savings of over $250,000. In pre. paration for the sale of the municipal bonds, the Village asked Moody’s Investor Services to provide the Village with a credit rating. Moody’s reaffirmed the Village’s existing Aa2 rating citing the Village’s “moderately-sized tax base with residential employment access to the Milwaukee metro area, stable financial operations characterized by sound reserves and conservative budgeting, and manageable exposure to post-retiree benefit liabilities.”

Construction Update Falls Road and 16th Avenue Road Project Falls Road Construction – The construction limits are from Black Hawk Drive on the west to Port Washington Road on the east. The road will be closed to all traffic and residents that live on the road will have access to their property. Appreciation Day for Season Pass Holder! On July 23, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. join us at the Family Aquatic Center for Appreciation Day!

Recreational Classes still available for enrollment! ARCHERY This is your opportunity to become involved in the challenging sport of archery. Instruction will be geared toward the basics of shooting, range equipment for target shooting and hunting. Equipment will be provided and personal archery equipment must be approved by the instructor. Open to boys and girls in grades 1-8. . CHEERLEADING CAMP Participants will learn sideline cheers, jumps, tumbling, stunting and more! Each participant will receive a t-shirt and poms and have a chance to perform at a Grafton High School football game. Camp will be run by Grafton High School State Champion Cheer Team. Please indicate t-shirt size on Registration Form.

Falls Road Bridge will be closed on July 15 for Maintenance. The approaches to the bridge will be milled off and repaved. The sidewalk metal plates will be replaced, as well. All work will be completed by the end of the day July 15. The Bridge will be closed at 7:00 a.m.

On July 17, Parks and Recreation along with Columbia Saint Mary’s will be showing Big Hero 6 at the Family Aquatic Center. Doors will open at 8:00 p.m. and the movie will star, t at dusk. Admission is free with a seasonal pool pass or $3.00 without a pass. Movie Licensing sponsored by: First Bank Financial Centre and Little Caesars.

Utility Employment Opportunities The Village of Grafton is accepting applications for two full-time positions: Utility Field Operator and seasonal Laborer in the Water and Wastewater Utility. Utility Field Operator will perform tasks associated with the operation, maintenance, and repair of Utility systems including pumping, distribution, collection and treatment facilities. Starting hourly rate range is $20.71 – 24.36. . Seasonal Laborer will assist with buildings and grounds maintenance and a variety of distribution and collection system activities during the summer and fall. Starting hourly rate is $9.60. Applications are available on the Village’s website at Utility Field Operator applications must be received by Friday, July 10, 2015. Seasonal Laborer applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Road Construction Updates Falls Road (Blackhawk Drive and Port Washington Road) – The road will be closed to all traffic except for residents that live on the road. The project will provide a multipurpose path (bikes and pedestrians) on the south side of the road, a five foot buffer between the travel lanes and the multipurpose path, a three foot paved shoulder on the north side of the street and two eleven foot travel lanes. The final lift of asphalt will be installed in 20. 16 to allow for any settling due to the utility work. Curb and gutter is scheduled to be installed this week and the grid system and stone will be installed over the next two weeks. Once these two items are completed, Payne and Dolan will fine tune the road grade and then pave in the binder towards the end of the month. 16th Avenue – This Village project began last week with the installation of the new sanitary sewer. The water main work will begin this week and all utilities should be completed by the end of next week. Once the utilities are completed, Payne and Dolan will come in and mill off the road surface, grade the road and place new pavement. This work is scheduled to be completed the first week of August. The section of road is closed all traffic at this time. Bobolink Avenue (Falls Road to south end) – Developer-hired contractor is removing all the old asphalt pavement and place four inches of new asphalt once all other street improvements are completed. Curb/gutter and sidewalk be installed on the west side of the road. Once this is completed, the road will be fine graded and the asphalt will be installed.

Meijer outdoor sculpture With most customers focused on finding a parking spot in a busy Meijer parking lot, they may have missed Climbing Arc, a 14 foot aluminum sculpture which has been erected adjacent to the site’s northwest parking lot edge. Meijer, whose Grand Rapids-located Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is internationally-acclaimed, commissioned Milwaukee artist Richard Taylor to design and construct this unique sculpture. . Mr. Taylor notes that “(t)his green space was an opportunity for me to create a sculpture that connects earth to sky, horizontal to vertical and environmental to industrial. Grafton Area Live Arts, Inc. (GALA) has announced its 2015 Summer Concert Series in Veterans Memorial Park. On Thursday, July 9 – Thursday, August 20, GALA in the Park concerts will be held from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. This year, John’s Pizzaria of Grafton and the Grafton Lions Club will be selling pizzas, popcorn, soda, water, and beer. .
