Description

Prairie Athletic Club is one of the largest single recreational fitness clubs with a facility of over 200,000 square feet in Wisconsin. It is also one of the largest health clubs in Madison. The club offers a range of services, such as personal training, wellness center for massage therapy, children s and adult parties. Additionally, it provides an array of adult programs, including American Red Cross courses, aqua fitness, F.A.S.T, aquatic excel, vertimax training, triathlon, warm water classes and fitness swimming. Prairie Athletic Club offers various aquatic facilities, which include Dolphins Cove, indoor pools and outdoor pools.

Summer is still in full swing. You may notice that your body reacts to the heat and humidity differently than it does to cooler, drier weather. Here are some tips on how to beat the heat while still staying on track with your fitness routine: 1. Change your workout time. If you are used to exercising during lunch or in the afternoon, you may need to adjust your schedule for the summer months. Early mornings and late evenings are the best times for outdoor exercise. 2. Fi. nd some shade. You may need to move your workout to a different area in order to be in the shade. If you are a runner or biker, change your route to a wooded area. Take things inside if needed! 3. Stay hydrated! Drinking plenty of water before, during and after your workout will reduce the heat stress on your body. Avoid caffeine. Because caffeine acts as a diuretic, it forces water out of your system. This is the last thing you want when exercising in the summer heat. Save your caffeine intake for several hours before or after your workout, rather than near the time you will be exercising. 4. Choose your clothing carefully. Now more than ever it is important to wear clothing that will move sweat away from your body and help it evaporate it quickly. Wear white or light colored clothing. Lighter colors reflect the heat better than darker, more intense colors. 5. Take breaks. Your body can only handle so much extreme heat. When the thermometer climbs, you may find that you need more frequent breaks to keep performing at your best. Be sure to take them. Listening to your body and caring for it is not a sign of weakness: it’s smart. 6. Monitor your heart. The heat places greater stress on your heart. Keep tabs on your heart rate as you work out in the heat. If it spikes quickly or stays too high, give it a rest.

WOD Wednesday 8/5. all classes will be doing a pool WOD! Bring your suit, towel, and goggles if you want them! We will still be doing a strength in the box first so plan your gear accordingly!

Strength schedule for the week of 8/3 THIS WEDNESDAY WILL BE A POOL WOD OUTSIDE so bring your suit! We will still do our warm up and strength in the box and then go outside for to the pool for the WOD. If the weather is bad we will stay inside for the WOD.
