Fleas and ticks are a common problem our pets face. Here are 7 tips to help you have the best success in keeping your pet free of these nasty critters!

Do you or someone you know wish you could get your cat or dog spayed or neutered but just cannot afford it? Did you know that if you live in Barron County, you can get financial assistance towards this important surgery? The PAWS Program pays $40-$60 towards cat surgeries and $55-$75 towards dog surgeries and all you have to do is mail in an application. You can pick up an application at the clinic and have a voucher back in less than two weeks! We highly recommend this wonderful program! Please share this post to spread the word.

Has your dog ever had a close encounter of the stinky kind? If your dog gets sprayed by a skunk, follow this recipe. Mix: 1 qt tepid water 1 qt 3% hydrogen peroxide. 1/4 cup baking soda 1-2 tsp liquid dishwashing detergent Wearing gloves, apply the lather, avoiding eyes, nose & mouth. After 5 minutes, rinse well & repeat if needed. Dry with an old towel. Your pet’s coat may become discolored & your bud should be dry before getting on furniture or carpet.

Tuesday Trivia – Which of these can be a sign that your cat is feeling ill? A: Eating more or less than usual B: Eliminating outside the litterbox C: A change in their sleeping habits. D: Weight loss OR weight gain D: Vocalizing more or less E: All of the above?

Most people have heard of cats getting kidney disease, but did you know dogs also can get it?

A common myth we hear is “I don’t need to bring my house cat / dog to the vet because there is nothing wrong with him!” An article by Dr. Mark Paul DVM explains the reason behind routine exams very well – “Your veterinarian and you are partners in your pets’ health. The goal is prevention or at very least early detection of disease. The inconvenience and cost is far less and in fact, the likelihood of success of preventive care is far greater than responding after problems become full blown.”

The sadness of saying goodbye to a beloved pet is unfortunately something we are no strangers to around here. While it’s heartbreaking to say goodbye to our special friends, it’s also often times hard to know what to say to someone who is mourning the loss of a pet. Here is a good list of things NOT to say to someone who has recently lost a pet

Does your dog take pieces of kibble out of his bowl and take them somewhere else to eat? Here’s why some dogs do that!

A cat in Colorado was euthanized after coming in contact with a rabid bat. The cat was not vaccinated against the virus. Remember, even indoor-only pets could have contact with rabid animals. Are your pets vaccinated? Unsure? Give us a call and we can tell you if your pets’ rabies vaccines are up to date!

One of the things people are often surprised to hear when we’re talking about reducing calories for our overweight pets is that vegetables make great substitutes for treats. Carrots and green beans are low in calories and most pets love them! Check out the list to see what other fruits and veggies your pet can eat!

There we are, stumbling through the darkness, finding our way when we see a wagging tail and we’re made a simple but profound offer. ‘I’ll come with you!’ says a dog. A dog has no journey of their own, no thoughts of past or future, so they give themselves fully to us in a way no person ever could.” – Will Kearney

We have a toasty weekend ahead of us! Please remember, in just a quick ten minute trip into the store, your car can heat up to over 100º even with the windows open. Don’t risk their lives – leave them home in the air conditioning!

Would never take my fur-kids anywhere else. I have been taking my pets to Barron Vet for years!
They saved my cats life last year.
K jumped through hoops to save my cat from a dangerous urinary blockage- Thanks to her and the other amazing folks there my sweet Garfunkel survived!
SOOO glad for their emergency after hrs care!
If I hadn’t been able to get him in when I did (at 6:00 pm on a sunday night) he wouldn’t have made it through the night. They remember both my dog’s names each time we visit and take time to come around the desk to greet them with ear scratches and liver treats!
Thanks for years of fantastic service!
This place is a joke. They have no idea what they are doing.
I will never give them my business again. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET. I’ve been bringing my cat here for over ten years.
Even though he’s not always the nicest cat, they are great with him and very helpful. I love having such a great clinic so close to home!
