Practice Safe Hunting With Your Dog!… Hunting season is upon us and many dogs are active and eager participants. However, these pets can easily be mistaken for small deer or other animals. Make sure your hunting dogs are: • well trained to respond to your commands • wearing a bright orange collar or coat for easy identification in the brush • well fed. Bring along a first aid kit specifically made for your pet . This should include muzzles, bandages, tweezers or forceps, eye wash, and antiseptic flush for wounds. Food and fresh water must be available for your dog throughout the day. Remember that low blood sugar can be a problem in active hunting dogs.
After a day outdoors with your dog, make sure that you make a thorough assessment of their haircoat, skin and ears to remove any ticks or plant debris that may be present. Look carefully for any cuts or abrasions of their skin, ears, tails, pads or toes. If they have been in lake, creek, river or pond water, wash their haircoats and skin thoroughly with fresh, warm water. And carefully remove any hair mats.
WATA stands for Walk About Talk About. The Glendale Chamber of Commerce Health Expo featured a booth from AEC&SS, where we were answering questions about pet health. As people walked through the exhibit tent, they gathered information and we initialed their participation sheets. At the end of the event, the sheet was turned in and entered into a drawing for great prizes. Ms. Hildebrand won the prize from AEC&SS! Ms. Hildebrand, we are happy to be here for you when you and your furry family are in need!

My husband and I took our cat Sheepy here after our vet recommended that we see a specialist. Dr. Klose and Robin are amazing.

I brought my dog to Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists to remove a malignant tumor. В

I have nothing but positive things to say about my interactions with Dr. Teunissen, his skills as a surgeon and the care my dog received. В He was very patient in the initial consultation to answer all of my questions. В He did so in a kind, thoughtful and understandable manner and I left our meeting feeling much more confident in my decision. В Our conversation gave me trust in him and his practice. В

Both of the staff members who surpervised my dog’s intake and outtake seemed exceptionally competent and sensitive to my anxiety and stress. В The woman who did my dog’s intake was especially reassuring and empathetic.

I had called in the evening of my dog’s surgery to see how she was doing and I received a call back from another doctor. В She was patient, reassuring and kind as well and I appreciated that she followed up with me quickly after she had completed her rounds. В

Both facilities were clean and comforting. The waiting room design of the Silver Spring location was especially nice and had a calming effect. В

I was given very detailed Take Home Instructions when my dog was released and was encouraged to call anytime I had questions about her recovery. В

My dog’s surgery was a success and after less than a week, she is almost back to her sweet and sassy self. В I am grateful for the care she received at Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists and would recommend this practice to those considering elective surgery or require emergency care for their pet.

The men and women who work here are AMAZING! They were so thorough and took the time to answer ALL of my phone calls when my dog Lucy had emergency surgery. Dr. Otters (spelling?) STAYED LATE even though he wasn’t on-call to do her surgery because he had been following her all day and wanted to see it through. He took so much time explaining everything to me and even let me see Lucy immediately after surgery. The other vet “intensivists” in the ICU were equally compassionate and really put me at ease. The girls up front were also very patient answering all my phone calls and questions. I can’t say enough good things about the people at LakeShore. They are wonderful.

I had a cat diagnosed with a rare form of cancer early in 2012, and was referred to the oncology department at Lakeshore Veterinary specialists. The doctor took time to answer all of my [many] questions throughout the process and made the best recommendations regarding chemotherapy and supportive care. My cat lived almost a full year before we had to euthanize him because of chemotherapy resistance. I feel lucky that I had a terrific doctor and staff tending to my cat. For anyone that has a pet needing care for cancer, I recommend the oncology department at Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists without hesitation.
