And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, 5 but for Cain and his offering he had no regard.
So Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? If there is any area that needs a total overhaul in our modern society it is the family. However this problem with family is not solely a modern issue, but rather dates back to the beginning of the creation of man. After Adam and Eve were expelled out of the Garden of Eden, they gave birth to two sons, Cain and Abel. Cain was a tiller of the ground (farmer), while his younger brother, Abel, was a keeper of sheep (shepherd). Both of them brought a sacrificial offering to the Lord.
Abel offered a lamb, while Cain’s offering was fruit that had fallen to the ground.
God rejected Cain’s offering because it was not the best that he could give. Yet, because Abel offered his best sacrifice, God favored his offering.
