*URGENT REQUEST* It is kitten season at the DRHS and we go through large quantities of KMR (kitten milk replacer). If you’d like to help our itty bitty kitties, you can pick up KMR at any of our local pet supply stores. Our shelter hours for Fetch List item drop off are: Tuesday-Friday 11 to 7, Saturday/Sunday 11 to 5 (we are closed on Mondays). A chorus of purrs thank you all for your continued support!

You know it’s going to be a good day when the critters pitch in to help with office work. Pictured here is “Naked Hippo,” our office mascot! This hairless Guinea Pig receives free room and board for her services.

FREE CATS! It’s a frenzy of felines at the DRHS, so we are offering a FREE CAT PROMOTION. From August 4-14, all cats 4 years and up are FREE! Cats 1 to 4 years are only $10. Our kittens under 1 year remain at $50. All of our cats are spayed or neutered. Standard adoption procedures apply.

On Saturday, this couple drove all the way from Duluth, MN to adopt 10-year-old Kelli. This sweet and fun loving German Shorthaired Pointer was a staff and volunteer favorite while she was here. She always had a constant supply of tail wags for anyone who stopped by her canine suite! Kelly’s new owners planned some scenic pit stops along the way for their 345 mile journey back home. They had never been to Dubuque before.

Come visit our table in the Agriculture Week education tent at the Dubuque County Fair. Lisa and her dog Dash are here until 4:30 with information on heat stroke, dogs in hot cars and tick control.

Emily adopted Starsky and Hutch! She writes, “Adopted these two a couple days ago and they are such good boys and are fitting in so well. We love them to pieces.” So nice that the two brothers could stay together!

These brand new volunteers took time out on a beautiful Saturday morning to attend an orientation to learn how they can help our lost, abandoned and unwanted animals! Pictured here: Tiffany Beltran, Trinity Beltran, Fiona Burns, Mandy Clark, Crystal Hefel, Audrey Ingram, Laura Jelinek, Xanah Knoblich, Haley O’Connell, Meggan Pfeiler, Ann Pitzer, Emily Pitzer, Divya Shivapuja, Andrea Simmons, Taylar Simmons and Emily Trentz.

A big thank you goes out to our guest speakers for our Kids & Critters camps this summer! These individuals take precious time out of their day to come teach our kids about different animal-related professions, dog training, grooming, responsible pet care and much more. Thank you for supporting the DRHS with your time and talents!

National Mutt Day was created in 2005 by Colleen Paige and is celebrated on July 31 and December 2. National Mutt Day is all about embracing, saving and celebrating mixed breed dogs. Adopt a dog on Friday, July 31 and receive 10% off in our Fuzzy Feet Boutique and a free mini flashlight!

Libby’s family just sent us photos of their “little baby” who they adopted in December 2014. They said, “She is still doing so awesome and we love her to pieces. She is still hanging right by her best friend’s side.”

Here are our current Benchwarmer Adoption Promotion players. Help these pets get into the game of family life. We are offering special pricing and a gift with your adoption! Our weekend hours are Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 5 PM.

UPDATE: ADOPTED!!) I’m Prince and I’m a senior dog at 10 years and 10 months in age. I still have lots of energy, I take treats nicely and I’m well mannered. I really enjoy car rides, taking walks and hanging out at home. I’m mellow and I rarely bark. I’ve had some training and know how to sit, shake and High 5. I haven’t had much experience with kids or cats. I’m basically a happy-go-lucky dog and would love a big yard to play in. Neutering has been taken care of and my vaccinations are completed and included in my adoption fee. Come out and meet me – let’s see if we click! My Benchwarmer adoption fee is $50.

Check out Starsky and Hutch! These fun-loving 3-year-old Lab mix boys are in love with life! Give them a toy and you will absolutely make their day!

Zeke (formerly Hutch) found a forever home yesterday. This sweet 4-month-old pup came to the DRHS on a special PetSmart Rescue Waggin’ transport from a shelter in Mississippi that was out of space. He was our guest for 14 days before his new owner Emily adopted him. She has this to say about her new found treasure, “I just want to say thank you again to everyone at your work and know that Hutch is in good hands! He’s now called Zeke.”

They do a great deal of work for the animals to try to find them exceptional homes. I absolutely love the two that I adopted from there and will always support the DRHS. Thanks for all that you do!

If i could give you no star, s I would. How could you kill any kind of animal that is in perfect health and young! You sho. uld be ashamed of yourselves. How would u feel if someone put you down just because of the breed. Gfy!.
