Amish Auction Saturday, July25th Hundreds flock to the annual Amish School Fund-raiser each summer. The sale takes place the last Saturday of July, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Many come before 8 a.m. to view the items to be auctioned. Among the items are beautiful hand-made quilts, handmade furniture, and antiques. Stroll around the grounds and buy tasty Amish baked goods, homemade ice cream and other delicious treats, and admire the strong work horses. Not far from the school, which is at the corner of Atkinson Road and STH 104, you will find Detweiler Kauffman Furniture, where you may purchase beautiful Amish-made furniture year-round. This quaint store is at WS09 Atkinson Road. For more information, call 608-897-8787.
See my new posting about early-technology. This was an article from the Wisconsin State Journal January 31, 2005. Steve Puntillo is owner of paragon Video & Stereo in Madison, who collects early technology. We visited him a few years ago with questions about an old Victrola we had acquired. Fascinating article!
Annual Pietenpol/Hatz reunion at Brodhead Airport. Welcome! EAA Chapter 431 will dedicate Beacon Tower Memorial on Saturday, July 18th at 10:30 am. The memorial resides in the replica generator shed near the newly erected Airway Beacon Tower along Airport Road. The Tower was recently restored as an Eagle Scout project by Sebastian Adams. The adjacent generator shed was also built as an Eagle Scout project by Holden Whitledge, (mynephew.) Landscaping and fencing was completed by Brett Hammon, also an Eagle Scout. You must see–this is an impressive project! Hope you can stop in to visit at the Brodhead Airport.
