Proof that dogs are pretty much awesome.

Please be on the lookout for this little Boston Terrier.

This is an interesting option for blind dogs.

For those pets with noise phobias, such as fireworks & thunderstorms.

It’s that time of year when people & dogs like to swim. Beware of water that resembles pea soup.

It’s the first of the month. don’t forget your pet’s heartwoom & flea/tick prevention! Happy June!

Please be in the lookout for this little cutie!

We have some exciting news at GAVC! The previous DuoTones building space is going to be added to our clinic and major remodeling is set to begin in April. We will remain open for business during the entire project, but there may be some shifting around as the project continues. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience the construction may cause, but we hope that you are as excited as we are to have some more space to provide the best care that we can to your pet family!

Heartworm Testing and Prevention season is upon us again! There are new guidelines for our area star, ting this year. Heartworm testing should be done prior to star, ting preventative (meaning as soon as possible), and the Heartgard manufacturer is advising that we should star, t Heartgard or other preventative April 1, to be given once monthly through December 1. This adds two months onto our previous 7-month long heartworm season. We at GAVC are recommending two different o. ptions: 1. Yearly testing prior to April 1 and give monthly preventative April through December; OR 2. Give monthly preventative year-round and perform heartworm testing every other year. Why do you need to test at all when giving preventative? Because, just like everything else in life, there is never a 100% guarantee. Heartworm disease is nasty and very expensive to treat after the fact. Testing and giving monthly preventative is a great insurance policy and early detection of heartworm disease is paramount to successful treatment. For those of you with certain Collie-type breeds, remember that they can potentially have a serious reaction to the primary ingredient in Heartgard (ivermectin). Another type of preventative is recommended, or a blood test can be performed to see if your dog has an ivermectin sensitivity. If you have any questions, please feel free to call our clinic at 218-628-0301.

There will be limited staff at the clinic today due to the snow. If you are trying to call, please be patient, as we may not be able to pick up right away. If you have an appointment and cannot make it, we completely understand. Stay safe out there!

For any of you who have dealt with hemangiosarcoma, or know someone else who has, please share and like my page dedicated to Marcus, our GSD who passed away yesterday from this disease. I hope to post informational articles and offer to support to anyone in need. Thank you, Beth (CVT at GAVC)

After having pocket pets most of my life, I had struggled with finding an office that took just as good of care of the s. maller pets as they did with the more common and larger pets. That all changed when I found Grand Avenue Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Dahl and his staff treated my Gerbils with such great care. I knew during the initial visit I knew I was in the right place. Each one was handled gently and thoroughly checked over. My “boys” as I called them, suffered from genetic issues causing the need for regular visits. The staff knew each one by name, and were genuinely always happy to see them on their monthly visits. During the course of their lives the care and compassion they received never tapered. I know that without Dr. Dahl, my time with them would have been greatly shortened. It’s been 7 years since I lost the last one and I will never be able to thank the staff enough for giving my “boys” a chance at life. Thank you.

Great staff! They are SOOOO good with my dog and great on my pocketbook too.
