Does bacteria grow on granite?

Granite makes for beautiful countertops, but it may also harbor millions or billions of bacteria. While granite itself doesn’t nourish bacteria, food preparation on granite countertops may leave moisture and traces of fats, proteins and carbohydrates in the stone pores that bacteria can live on.
