Granite that is installed on concrete floors on ground and subjected to prolong moisture can spall, which is a form of the surface deteriorating and will give it a textured feel. This normally does not happen to stone on countertops because there can’t be any underlying source of moisture.
Low quality granite slabs are not applied with resin in the factory. This means that the durability of your countertops is significantly compromised because the voids in the surface were never filled. The granite countertop grittiness is a sign that your new kitchen surfaces aren’t structurally sound.
Quartz can also cause scratches to granite countertops. Knives, on the other hand, won’t be able to scratch granite, but using them directly on the surface can dull them. That’s why it’s always recommended to use a cutting board on a granite countertop.
Although granite countertops require very little maintenance, when exposed to the elements it may require annual sealing. You may cool the surface of your countertops by applying lukewarm water – avoid cold water, which can cause hot granite to crack.
Just because granite can hold up to extreme temperatures does not mean that it is a good idea to leave countertops in an outdoor kitchen exposed to the sun. By mid-afternoon on a hot summer day, the surface of your granite countertop will be hot to the touch. Mar 8, 2019
Grouting natural stone always leaves some residue behind, even when the work is performed by an experienced installer. This problem is called a grout stain or grout film, and it may appear as a slight film or haze or an actual grout deposit. Manmade ceramic tiles are fairly easy to clean because they are nonporous.
The answer is that while no material is completely 100-percent stain -proof, granite countertops are surprisingly stain -resistant— and that includes light colors, too! The natural stone’s hardness gives granite its resistance to staining.
