Granite that is installed on concrete floors on ground and subjected to prolong moisture can spall, which is a form of the surface deteriorating and will give it a textured feel. This normally does not happen to stone on countertops because there can’t be any underlying source of moisture.

This means that the durability of your countertops is significantly compromised because the voids in the surface were never filled. The granite countertop grittiness is a sign that your new kitchen surfaces aren’t structurally sound.
Quartz can also cause scratches to granite countertops. Knives, on the other hand, won’t be able to scratch granite, but using them directly on the surface can dull them. That’s why it’s always recommended to use a cutting board on a granite countertop.
Although granite countertops require very little maintenance, when exposed to the elements it may require annual sealing. You may cool the surface of your countertops by applying lukewarm water – avoid cold water, which can cause hot granite to crack.
