There are still a few hundred pounds of Montmorency tart cherries on the trees. Most are higher on the trees, but we have several safe orchard ladders for you to use if you can't reach them. We'll open for pick-your-own cherries for one last day. . . Saturday, July 11 from 9 until 5. Thanks to all the great people who stopped by my orchard to pick cherries this year! — Pat Curran

Balaton cherries are sold out, but we still have several hundred pounds of Montmorency cherries on the trees. ($1.79/lb) Please check our face book later this week for an update on the availability of Montmorency cherries for picking next weekend. Thank you!

Cherries are ripening faster than expected! — We will open for pick your own tart cherries on Sat., June 27th at 9AM. We will be open Sun., June 28th as well (9AM to 5PM). We will close for the following week but plan to open again on July 4th for Balaton cherries (assuming they ripen as planned). We recommend checking this face book page for any updates on the Balatons.

Need an Awesome Apple Donut fix? Curran's Orchard is at the Rockford City Market on Fridays with Awesome Apple Donuts and Apple Cider Slushies! (3:30 to 8:30)

A great cherry bloom this spring means a fine crop of tart cherries in late June or early July! It all depends on the weather. We will post on face book as to when the cherries will be ready. Weather has been cool and rainy, so it looks like it will probably be the first week in July. We'll keep you posted!

A reminder to everyone of our hours: Weekends: 9AM to 6PM Weekdays: 7AM to 6PM (Take some donuts to work.)

Empires were picked this week . . . and LOTS of PUMPKINS! Pressing a LARGE batch of cider today!

CIDER! We now have fresh pressed cider available! Our first batch of the season! (Had to wait for the sweeter apples to mature to complement the tart apples we had already picked.) It's pure juice — no water, no sugar, & no preservatives have been added!

The sweet apples that I need to make a balanced blend of cider are finally maturing! We'll have cider on the 24th. (Didn't want to make cider until I had the right apples to work with.)

We have a rather small crop of apples this year as a result of the severe winter we experienced. Many buds were killed, & we even lost some trees because of the extreme cold. Because of the rather small crop, we will not have u-pick apples this fall. (Wherever the public picks, over half of the apples wind up on the ground. . . & we just can't afford to lose any apples to the ground this season.) I hope everyone will understand. We will still have u-pick raspberries and pumpkins, weekend hay wagon rides, & all the other goodies that go along with the fall season.

Apples that are currently available in the apple barn are: Zestar, Macintosh, and Gala. We will begin picking Honey Crisp late this week!

Just a short note to let you that the raspberries are just now beginning to turn red. (They need some rain to kick 'em into gear.) I expect them to be more abundant the last week of August, & then through September.

We will open for the fall season on Saturday, August 23rd, & will be every day from 9AM to 6PM until the December 1st! Dave the "official greeter" has been training his son, Larry, in the finer points of greeting visitors. They've been practicing, & Larry is doing just fine in his new responsibilities. They are anxiously waiting for everyone to show up at the orchard this fall!

It's Dave and Little Larry !

That's Larry with some of his sisters. (There are a couple of them that are not spoken for if you're interested in an AKC black lab with excellent background.)

Great news! We will have an additional "official greeter" at the orchard this fall! Dave (official greeter) sired a litter of AKC labs, & one of them (Larry) will be a "greeter-in-training" this year. He's as cute as a button & as laid back as they come. I'll post a picture of him getting weighed when he was just a few weeks old. He's now 6 weeks old and will be home with me & Dave at 8 weeks!. (There are still a few puppies that have not been spoken for is anyone is interested.)

Horse drawn wagon rides each weekend. (weather permitting)

We open early weekdays so you can take some donuts to work! mmmmmmm,

NEED TO CLARIFY: Several customers were disappointed because we didn't have fresh cider ready for this weekend. There is a reason. . . It's very early in the season & I only have a couple of apples to work with — that's not enough to make good cider. I regret that some customers were disappointed, but I simply won't make cider unless I have enough apples to ensure a good balance of flavor. I plan to have fresh cider the weekend of 9/7 & 9/8, & I expect it to be on the slightly tart side of the flavor spectrum. And as usual, it'll be pure juice with no water, sugar, or preservatives added. Thank you for your understanding. Pat Curran
