Description

Introductions

Best Place, located at the heart of the former Pabst brewery, celebrates the history of Pabst with historic Blue Ribbon Hall (which can be rented for banquets), a vintage gift shop (featuring vintage items that were partly recovered from the original brewery), the Sternewirt guest center and two beautiful courtyards. In the tavern and adjacent beer garden, local and Wisconsin-brewed beers are served in an authentic, German atmohere.

Historic Beer History Tours are available through the refurbished parts of the building on Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays at 2 & 4pm and Friday through Sunday at 12, 1, & 2pm. The cost is $8 and Military Personnel receive a $2 discount. The tour fee includes a free pint of PBR, Schlitz or a soda.

History

Established in 2009.

With the closing of the Pabst Brewery in 1996 came the opening of an opportunity. After many years of blood, sweat, and beers, the "best use" of these buildings has fermented into Best Place at the historic Pabst Brewery — taking its name from the founders, Jacob and Phillip Best, and its irit from the Captain, Frederick Pabst. In December 2009, the vintage gift shop re-opened its doors and since May 2010, beer is served again at the bars in historic Blue Ribbon Hall and the Sternewirt Guest Center.

A visit to the Best Place brings Milwaukee brewing history, beautiful artwork, beer, and great people all together at one point in time. We spent an afternoon there on the tour and looking around. We will definitely be back soon! This isn't a regular brewery tour where you get to see beer bottles and production. What this tour provides is the brewing history of Milwaukee told from the passionate owner of the beautiful buildings.

I have been on multiple brewery tours all over Wisconsin. I love beer, haha. If you think the Lakefront Brewery tour is good, the Best Place tour is…. the best!!! В It is definitely worth the price of admission.

If you love beer, history and a good time, you should definitely attend this tour. В The owner and tour guide is both entertaining and intelligent. В The tour lasts roughly one hour, and the best part is that you can drink an ice cold PBR while you roam the building. В If you love nostalgia, this is a must-do Milwaukee attraction.

My boyfriend and I went on a tour this past weekend and thoroughly enjoyed everything that Jim had to offer. I am excited for him to have such an important restoration to do. Even if you don't like Pabst, there is no denying that the Best Place has historical significance and that makes for a very cool tour. Not to mention, the Blue Ribbon Hall would be the COOLEST place to have a wedding reception -very unique. I also learned that the Best Place has live music events and DJ nights there, I kind of wish I lived in Milwaukee for that reason alone! The only thing I wold recommend is resurrect the beer drinking fountain!

Had a great tour today. В I kind of like the fact that you get to tour the unfinished parts, I like imagining what it will look like when it is done and can't wait to see it when it is finished. В The tour was fun and interactive. В This tour is the history of how Pabst came to be Pabst Blue Ribbon not how the beer is made, you are not getting a tour of an operational brewery after all. В If you are looking to learn how beer is made this tour isn't for you, if you want to learn the history behind Pabst and see a gorgeous building then definetly check it out. В If I have any upcoming events to plan I will keep this place in mind. В If you want a cold beer and a unique experience other than just sitting at a bar check this place out. В This is a great way to meet people, we chatted with everyone on the tour and had a nice afternoon there.

I have been to Best Place numerous times since it opened. The most recent was 4/8/11.
There is so much about this place that I love! Starting at the В courtyard with The Captain. You walk in and there he is welcoming you. Stand next to him and take a picture with some real Milwaukee, WI history. Grab a beer from the side bar ( Best Place Tavern) В with its original artwork, stained glass windows and beautiful fireplace. Make friendly with your bartenders- they are awesome… Shout out to Don and Scott! They were our bartenders for a group of gals that all went out on a Friday night, sans husbands and kids! It is not unusual to find the owner there. Jim H is always ready to answer any questions about the history of the place and has scheduled tours you can take. Check out the website for more info on those- В He is a smiley, friendly, knowledgeable man and you can really tell he loves this place. В After the tavern, move on to the historic Blue Ribbon Hall – which has been lovingly and carefully restored and is the spot you want for a large party! It has hosted wedding receptions, bands, victory parties, Packer parties, fundraisers, you name it, this is the spot! Walk through and check out the gift shop, then back out to the courtyard and time for another beer!
No matter what time of year, Best Place really is the best place!
