WHIE is a broad-based partnership of healthcare organizations

WHIE is sponsored by the National Institute for Medical Informatics (NIMI) a nonprofit organization dedicated to research, development, implementation and operation of advanced healthcare information networking solutions.

From WHIE’s founding, we have worked in partnership with a consortium of organizations and agencies, all striving to achieve better health care outcomes. Initially these groups included the Milwaukee Healthcare Partnership, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, the Wisconsin Hospital Association, the Milwaukee Health Department and the Medical Society of Milwaukee County. Today, many more organizations, agencies and healthcare providers serve on our Advisory Board.

Initial funding came from the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, through a Medicaid Transformation grant with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and a contribution from the health system members of the Milwaukee Health Care Partnership. Current funding comes from Department of Health Services, from the participating health systems and from agreement with Humana and the Business Health Care Group. (Read a recently completed research report, sponsored by Humana.) Additionally, NIMI recognizes its membership organizations and their annual fees. NIMI was founded in 2004 and began clinical operations through WHIE in March 2008. WHIE is now in its fourth year of operations and provides support to health systems, communities and public health including over 50 hospitals and clinics across 29 counties in Wisconsin.
